L’Italia così come la vedono oggi i turisti
«Saluti da» è a metà tra una mostra e una cartolina inviata a tutti i visitatori stranieri e non che ci hanno abituano a un’immagine stereotipata dell’Italia e dei suoi monumenti. In vacanza o per lavoro mi sono ritrovato ad osservare e impersonificare il turista, vero protagonista, insieme ai luoghi visitati e ai suoi tipici tic.
Partito dalla Puglia, per 12 giorni in totale, alla volta di 26 città turistiche italiane, ho voluto riprodurre l’esemplare del turista, o meglio del visitatore (come preferisce definirsi), tutto smartphone e pose da pubblicare sui social network all’istante e in quel preciso luogo. Con il risultato che non è difficile ritrovarsi in quelle fotografie (chi di noi non ha almeno una foto che lo ritrae mentre cerca di spingere o raddrizzare la torre di Pisa?.
Italy as experienced by tourists today
“Saluti da” (“Greetings from”) is a cross between an exhibition and a postcard, sent to all foreign and local visitors who have made us accustomed to a stereotyped image of Italy and its monuments. Whether on vacation or work I’ve found myself observing and impersonating the tourists – the true subject matter – along with the places they visit and their typical ‘twitches’.
Starting off in Puglia on a 12-day tour of 26 Italian cities, I wanted to replicate the tourist (or visitor, as he prefers to be known) staples: all smartphones and poses destined for social media at that precise moment and place. The result is that it isn’t difficult to recognise ourselves in some of those photographs (who among us doesn’t have at least one picture of themselves holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa?)
